Gantry Cranes
Gantry crane is a type of crane that utilize independent column on one side or both sides of the bridge's end, the independent column(s) supporting the bridge (girder). Gantry crane also called goliath crane or portal crane. Because of it's independent columns (legs) this type of crane is suitable for outdoor although you still can install it indoor
There are two main variations of gantry cranes :
- Semi gantry, one side of the bridge's end supported by independent column, the other side supported on the building's runway beam.
- Full gantry, both sides of the bridge (girder) supported by independent columns (legs)
The columns (legs) it self made from steel pipes or custom made steel box plate. It needs to be strong enough to handle the load and efficient enough to minimize the cost. Those columns or legs attached on a saddle (end carriage) placed on top of a rail.
